European Legal Acts Governing Personal Data Protection Issues

The protection of personal data of every individual is regulated by European provisions among which the most important ones are the Convention No. 108 of January 28, 1981 for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data and the Directive 95/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 24 October 1995 on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data. The above legal acts contain general rules allowing for harmonisation of legislation of different states as regards personal data protection.
