TVP Warszawa TV station asked the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection how to proceed in case where a police officer while giving a ticket obtained personal data relating not to an offender, but to a third person, not associated with the case.
During the interview with the journalist Ewa Pasztelaniec, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection explained that it was necessary to apply personal data processing procedures which would guarantee full data protection.
GIODO drew attention to the most common phenomenon of identity theft, i.e. the situation where a third person uses one’s personal data without his/her consent (i.e. uses them against the data subject), and he recommended the citizens not to recklessly disclose too much information about themselves.
Michał Serzycki emphasised also the importance of raising citizens awareness, concerning in particular one of the most significant rights of each citizen, i.e. the right to privacy and personal data protection.
