This was the main message of the fourth activity report, in which the Joint Supervisory Body of Europol (JSB) presents 10 years of data protection supervision at the European Police Office (Europol). The report is not limited to Europol – it comprises as well law enforcement activity by the parties concerned, i.e. Member States. JSB states in the report that there is an increasing need to explore whether practices and procedures governing data quality at national level meet the standards of Europol. In the fight against serious international crime and in the light of the growing number of legal instruments at EU level, there is a need for mutual trust and for the comprehensive and conscious assumption of responsibilities of all stakeholders. The monitoring and supervising of this process requires joint data protection activity.
