The talk between Michał Serzycki, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection, with the journalist of the Polish Radio Ewelina Karpacz-Oboładze focused on the basic principles of personal data protection which shall be observed by marketing companies in their activity.
During the interview held on 6 August 2009, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO) explained among others that marketing companies were obliged to obtain consent to the use of our data as well as to inform us on which company (name, address and contact data), for what purpose and in which scope would process our personal data and what would do with them, i.e. whether and to whom it would further transfer them. GIODO emphasised that due to the conclusion of the agreement with the Direct Marketing Association (SMB) and the application of the best practice code by marketing companies associated within SMB the Bureau of the Inspector General was receiving less and less complaints on the activity of this sector.
