Press conference of GIODO and the Episcopate of Poland

The cooperation between GIODO and the Episcopate of Poland for the benefit of personal data protection was the main topic of the press conference organised on 23 September 2009.

The event was held at 11.00 in room no. 16 of the Secretariat of the Conference of the Episcopate of Poland (Warsaw).

During the Conference the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection, Michał Serzycki, and the Secretary General of the Conference of the Episcopate of Poland, bishop Stanisław Budzik, signed the Guidelines on „Personal Data Protection in the Activity of the Catholic Church in Poland”. It is a certain kind of code of good practice containing basic principles to be followed by the representatives of the Church when processing personal data.

The Guidelines not only respond to the most bothering problems related to pastoral work, but also include a glossary with basic terms from the area of personal data protection, explain the principles of proper safeguarding of data as well as indicate the obligations – resulting also from the Code of Canonic Law – of the data controller.
