GIODO signed the „Agreement for Online Safety of Children”

The Inspector General for Personal Data Protection became one of the signatories to the Agreement for Online Safety of Children”.

The main objective of the Agreement is building a coalition for education of children, their parents and guardians as regards the risks entailed by the use of the Internet and the ways to eliminate them.

Upon joining the circle of signatories, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection, Michał Serzycki supported this initiative, especially due to the fact that it is in line with the so far educational activities addressed to citizens, which have become one of GIODO’s priorities. The Inspector General has already organised education campaigns addressed to children and young people.

According to GIODO, the Agreement was an especially valuable initiative, because intensification of activities and coordinated cooperation of many institutions was essential to ensure safe use of the Internet by children.

Signatories to this document provide inter alia for conducting joint activities aimed in particular at combating illegal Internet contents such as pornography or calls for hatred.

GIODO’s aim is to draw the attention of children among others to the risks related to the use of the Internet such as cases of some users pretending to be someone else or identity fraud.   – I would like to teach children to be careful, not to give personal data not only relating to them, but also to other family members, not to place too much information on themselves on the Internet – said Michał Serzycki. – In any case such education will also be helpful to adult Internet users – he added.

„The Agreement for Online Safety of Children” was initiated by TP Group and concluded in July 2009 by 12 Signatories-Founders representing telecommunications operators, Internet service providers, NGOs specialising in Internet security related issues, as well as government administration authorities.

The Agreement remains open to all interested entities conducting activity within its scope.

Special website shall be launched soon as well.
