During the interview given to Internet TV station lookr.tv Michał Serzycki, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection explained when our information should be regarded as personal data.
The journalist conducting the interview, Mateusz Malicki stated that the information on personal data protection on the Web aroused big emotions among Internet users, first of all due to the fact that the matter did not seem so clear as we wished it to be. Therefore, he asked which data should be protected and which shouldn’t and why. He was in particular interested in the issue when IP number could be considered as personal data and which principles should be followed when publishing that number.
Michał Serzycki, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection emphasised that, as a rule, IP number was considered to be personal data and thus was subject to protection. He explained that using IP number by Internet service providers was different than publishing that number without the knowledge and consent of persons identified by it.
