Interview for lookr.tv television station on personal data processing conducted by social networking sites, 15 January 2010

During the interview given to lookr.tv Internet TV station GIODO explained which data protection principles should be applied by social networking sites operators.

The journalist conducting the interview, Mateusz Malicki, asked inter alia which obligations were imposed on the person who set up a networking site and who was processing users’ personal data.

Michał Serzycki, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection, explained that one of the basic obligations of each data controller was informing the data subjects who is the user of their data, why he used them, in what scope and in which way. This information shall be contained in the regulations, with which everyone shall get acquainted before signing up for the networking site.

Michał Serzycki also clarified when the data files owned by the entity who established the networking site should be notified to registration by GIODO. He also explained which safeguards should be applied when processing personal data in computer systems.
