The interview given by Michał Serzycki to Natalia Beń from the Polish Radio External Service (Polskie Radio dla Zagranicy) was devoted to the participation of GIODO in EU projects.
GIODO explained that one of its priorities was raising personal data protection awareness. Poland has significant achievements in this field, proved by Eurobarometer surveys. The latter confirm that among all EU Member States Poles show biggest awareness of their rights to personal data protection and the right to privacy. – It’s a great success – said Michał Serzycki – because when I took the office of the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection almost four years ago we had the 18th place, and in 2008 we were promoted to the first place. These results were for us one of the incentives to undertake further educational activities, among which children and youth education is the most important one– he clarified.
What’s important, we managed to obtain EU funds from the „Lifelong Learning Programme” to realise the project „Personal data protection and privacy issues in education”. The experience gained during the project will be helpful in developing by GIODO an effective strategy for educating children and youth on adequate personal data protection.
