Recording for POLSAT Television, 13 August 2010

The level of compliance of marketing companies with data protection principles is growing – sais GIODO.

Mr Wojciech Wiewiórowski, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection (GIODO) stated this opinion during the recording for “Interwencja”, a broadcast by POLSAT television channel.

Ms Irmina Brachacz, POLSAT’s journalist, asked about the use of citizens’ personal data by marketing companies with regard to complaints received from the viewers, concerning the activity of one of such companies.

GIODO admitted that among the complaints received, the number of those pertaining to data processing for marketing purposes has been decreasing.

He added that one of the reasons for such fact was GIODO’s cooperation with Direct Marketing Association (SMB), which led to the elaboration of Best Practice Code, specifying the principles of data processing for marketing purposes. The member companies of SMB declare adherence to the norms specified in the Code.
