The 26th International Conference on Privacy and Personal Data Protection: "the Right to Privacy - the Right to Dignity" (http://26konferencja.giodo.gov.pl) under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Poland. Wrocław, 14,15 and 16 September 2004
The conferences are the most important, annual meetings of participants from all over the world who represent national authorities for personal data protection, the Council of Europe, the European Commision and also scientific circles, the most powerful, world-wide economic entities and self-governments.
Traditionally, the conference was attended by participants coming from Europe, North and and South America, Australia and New Zealand. Also traditionally, the invitation for the conference were received by the representatives of public institutions and human rights organisations from the countries of "new democracies" where democratic institutions are just being organised and for whom the conference was the occasion to become acquianted with the issues of pesonal data protection.
International conferences create an opportunity to discuss new problems as regards the protection of data and privacy and enable to present new technologies which are likely to be used for the violation of one's privacy and technologies used for privacy protection. During such conferences, new, international legal regulations on the protection of privacy are prepared.
The choice of the Polish Inspector for Personal Data Protection as an organizer of such an important meeting is the form of appreciation for Poland as a democratic country where citizens' rights and freedoms, especially the right to privacy and personal data are highly respected.
