Conference on the performance of DPO’s duties
The Conference to be organised by GIODO and PAN (the Polish Academy of Sciences) on 14 February 2017 will be devoted to the presentation of the role and tasks of DPO, whose appointment – under GDPR – will become obligatory in many circumstances.
During three sessions, experts from the GIODO Bureau, representatives of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, which on the part of the government is in charge of the preparation of Poland to the application of the General Data Protection Regulation, administrators of information security (DPOs), as well as representatives of universities and NGOs specialising in the issues of the right to privacy and data protection will discuss questions such as:
- legal grounds for the performance DPO’s tasks, including the meaning of the Art. 29 Working Party’s Guidelines,
- the expected shape of the Polish personal data protection legislation in relation to the performance of DPO’s function,
- possible options of the performance of DPO’s function – data controller’s employee, outsourcing, one DPO for many entities, a team of DPOs,
- the method of verification of the required level of expertise and skills,
- DPO’s position in the organisation.
The event will be finalised with a discussion panel, the participants of which will debate on how current administrators of information security can prepare for the performance of Data Protection Officer’s duties - to what extent it will be possible to use the so far experience, what adjustment efforts can be undertaken, how should the schedule of preparations look like.
The Conference is one of the events organised in connection with the celebrations of the 11th Data Protection Day.
In 2017 the theme of the celebrations is „Personal Data Protection in the Era of Changes”. The choice of the topic was not random, as the year 2017, which marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Act on Personal Data Protection – has been established in the ruling of Dr Edyta Bielak-Jomaa, the Inspector General for Personal Data Protection, as the Year marking the 20th Anniversary of the right to personal data protection in Poland. Therefore, it will be the year of summaries of the so far experience and acquis in the field of personal data protection, and at the same time the year of intensified preparations of Poland to the application of the General Data Protection Regulations. Hence all the events organised in connection with the celebrations will refer to the forthcoming changes, and the Conference to be organised by GIODO and PAN on 14 February 2017 will be entirely devoted to them.
The Conference will be held in the Staszic Palace at Krakowskie Przedmieście St. in Warsaw.
Please, be kindly informed that the registration for the event has been closed.
